Portuguese is the second largest Romance language by number of speakers. Originating in Portugal, where it is spoken by 10 million people, it also boasts more than 185 million speakers in Brazil and 8 million speakers in Africa. It is an official language of Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor.
