Asking for Directions
It is common and acceptable for visitors to stop local residents on the street to ask for directions. People tend to give directions based on landmarks rather than by street names, since many smaller streets are not marked with signs. Country maps may be useful in navigating between cities and towns, but city maps are not always helpful due to unmarked streets and complicated layouts. Visitors to downtown Amman should go to the Visitors Center, housed in a public library near the Roman Amphitheater. The center carries brochures on lodging, food, and tourist attractions.
